When is the Best Time to Build a Custom Home?

January 25, 2017

Is there really a “best” time of year to build a new custom home? Not really. The best time depends on many different factors. No two home building projects are exactly alike because every single homeowner is unique. At Camelot Homes, we work to ensure your custom home is built to fit your personal needs and timeline. Together, we will determine the best time of year to begin the building process.

Great Weather All Year Round

Often, you hear the best time for new home construction is in early spring to beat the heat or in early fall to avoid the cold. This home building advice generally applies only to areas that have a wide fluctuation in temperature throughout the year.

But our homes are located throughout the greater Phoenix area, where the weather is quite different from other parts of the country. Although temperatures can average 100+ June through September, the average annual low temperature is 63 degrees. Our region doesn’t experience the freezing temperatures that affect breaking ground in the winter months like areas in the northern states.

In addition, we see minimal rainfall — just an average of eight inches annually according to U.S. Climate Data. Moreover, the months of May, June and November have the least amount of rain.

But weather isn’t the only factor to consider.

Personal Timeline

The best time of year to build a home for you may not be the best time for someone else. When attempting to determine the ideal time for new home construction, it is essential to look at your personal calendar and needs. If you are relocating to Arizona for a job, then the construction timeline will depend on your start date. If not, check for the optimal time and if there are any big family events you need to schedule around.

Other Factors

Regardless of when you begin the home building process, there are several things that can affect the timeline, sometimes even delaying a move-in date. These include:

  • Delivery Delays: Materials and supplies sometimes take longer than expected to arrive.
  • Changes: Making significant changes after construction has begun can delay the finish date.
  • Indecision: Struggling to choose flooring materials or fixtures for the master bath or other rooms can hold up the construction process.

Whether you are an Arizona resident or looking to relocate to our beautiful state, Camelot Homes will create a seamless process to build your luxury home at any time throughout the year. Call us today to discuss location, design and timeline for your new home.
