He was also just recognized as Warranty/Quality Assurance Team Member of the year at the Home Builder’s Association of Central Arizona’s MAME Awards on May 2, 2015. And now he can add his latest role as blog contributor to his extensive resume! We recently asked him for some insight regarding homeowner maintenance. Take it away, Russ!
Welcome to Russ’s Corner
A home is a hand-built product, assembled with natural and manufactured materials; the components interact with each other and the environment. Although quality materials and workmanship have been used in our homes, this does not mean that it will be care- or maintenance-free. General homeowner maintenance is essential to having a quality home for life.
We are proud of the homes we build and the neighborhoods in which we build. We strive to create long-lasting value. This cannot be achieved unless you, as the homeowner, properly maintain your home and all of its components. Below is a first in a series of maintenance tips for you.
Maintenance Issue #1: Drywall
Slight cracking, nail pops, or seams may become visible in walls and ceilings. These are caused by the shrinkage of the wood and normal deflection of rafters to which the drywall is attached.
Repair Tips
With the exception of the one-time repair service provided by Camelot Homes, the care of the drywall is your maintenance responsibility. Most repairs are simple and can be done without hiring a professional. Hairline cracks can be repaired with a coat of paint, slightly larger cracks can be repaired with spackle or caulk. To correct a nail pop, reset the nail with a hammer and punch. Cover it with spackle, apply two or three thin coats. When dry, sand the surface with fine-grain sandpaper, then paint. Indentations caused by sharp objects can be filled with spackle in the same manner. All products mentioned here can be purchased at a paint or hardware store.
Enjoy your home and hope to see you soon at one of our beautiful communities.
