With summer slowly winding down and fall temperatures inching their way into the forecast, ’tis the season to start planning. Don’t worry – we’re not talking about Christmas – let’s wait a bit longer for that. Thanksgiving and Halloween are coming as well, but we’ll leave those on the back burner for a while longer too. The planning we need to start thinking about now is for the influx of friends and family who will soon be traveling to the Valley of the Sun to take advantage of our glorious fall/winter temps and the innumerable activities they allow for throughout the upcoming months.
Hiking, biking, golfing, restaurants, concerts, plays, sporting events, outdoor parties – we all have our go-to entertaining ideas when guests come to town. With so many options, it’s no surprise we have so many visitors this time of year. What’s not to love?
But after a long day of showing off our little piece of heaven in the desert, one question remains – do you have a little piece of heaven waiting for them at home?
Whether they’re only here for a quick weekend getaway or planning to stay for the season, here are a few tips to help create a heavenly respite for your guests.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the photo above is no exception. This room has it all!
For starters, the bed is perfect. Experts recommend providing multiple layers of bedding for guest comfort –sheets, a coverlet, and a down duvet are a great combination. Coupled with the comfy pillows, this textured, fluffy comforter will be a welcome sight at the end of a long day!
The side table is also a winner – use of a table with multiple drawers not only gives your guests somewhere to set their book, glasses, phone, etc., but the drawers enable them to unpack and feel more at home. And given that everyone travels with their cell phone and countless other electronics, an easily accessible power strip or docking station would be a thoughtful addition as well.
In addition to those already mentioned, the guest casita at Gold Mountain (shown above) also exemplifies a few more expert recommendations. The bedside lighting is a plus, as it prevents your guests from fumbling around in an unfamiliar space (enabling them to extinguish the light without tracking down a light switch across the room). Another perk in this room is the plush rug – a welcome touch after a day spent shopping or hiking or sight-seeing, and of course a pleasure to wake up to first thing the following morning.
Another bonus for your guests is a cozy sitting area where they can relax, read a book, listen to music, or watch TV. This is especially welcome if they’ve just arrived after a long day of travel, or even if they’re just looking for a bit of afternoon R&R. Another nice touch might be blackout shades to help facilitate a quick nap or, depending on the orientation of the room, if they’d like to sleep in a little later than our bright Arizona sunshine permits.
These are just a few of the many, many ways you can welcome guests into your home. If you’re looking to treat them to a special, one-of-a-kind experience during their visit, why not bring them to one of our communities to tour our models? We’d love to see everyone!
